New Employee Spotlight!!

Hello everyone!

My name is Rebecca Kirkman. I am a recent graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree in Deaf Education with a concentration in Interpreting for the Deaf.

I first got interested in the interpreting profession while I was attending another college’s open house. They had an interpreter for one of their presentations and I was so fascinated that I watched them the whole time instead of listening to the speaker. That’s when I decided to pursue interpreting in college and as a career.
I am honored to become a member of the CAP team. They continue to be wonderful mentors and colleagues. I don’t think I could have asked for a more supportive, friendly, and professional group to work with.

As of right now I am planning on taking the written portion of the NIC before this summer and the performance and interview portion by the end of this year.

I also enjoy volunteering for Deaf-Blind events, such as, Camp Dogwood and the North Carolina Deaf-Blind Associates annual conference. These events are phenomenal! I am privileged to be able to take the time to get to know such an amazing group of people.

Upcoming Workshops for Professional Development

There are some exciting workshops coming up in the next few months!! Please look at a few web sites to get some information on the workshops that will be provided through NCRID, Midstate, and ASL Links. Growth and development of our own skills and understandings is required by our profession, but more than that we should require that of ourselves. Challenge the way that you work-- get out there and learn something new!
